| DAYS OF TASTE |
The San Diego Chapter is creating a recipe for success by bringing the ingredients from local farms and chefs to classrooms. Students compare and contrast tastes and textures as well as develop understandings about different foods and basic nutrition principles that will remain with them into adulthood.
Days of Taste®, known as the signature program for AIWF, is an interactive program for fourth and fifth grade students that helps build a food and nutrition vocabulary. We pride ourselves on reaching out to thousands of children each year.
Some of the activities students have in the Days of Taste® include a tasting guided by a chef, a visit with a local farmer to discover the wealth and variety of products grown and that are available locally (such as the trip to Strawberry Fields in Carlsbad), or preparing a Harvest salad using fresh produce that the they have purchased themselves at their local Farmer’s Market.
If you would like more information on how you can support the Days of Taste® program and become involved, please contact Days of Taste Chairman Dr. Lee Jaret at sjaret1@san.rr.com.
We’re not just nourishing our youth – we’re nurturing the AIWF members and leaders of tomorrow.

Information About AIWF 2014 Scholarships for Study in 2015
The American Institute of Wine & Food (AIWF) is a national non-profit educational organization established in 1981 by the late Robert Mondavi, the late Julia Child, the late Richard Graff, and others to promote a forum for the study and enjoyment of gastronomy. The AIWF is dedicated to advancing the understanding, appreciation, and quality of wine and food through fun educational experiences in support of its Days of Taste® and Scholarship programs.
The San Diego Chapter of AIWF awards scholarships for the pursuit of culinary arts, enology/viticulture, and beverage studies in full or part-time accredited continuing education programs. The scholarships typically range from $500 to $5,000, and the funds do not need to be repaid. All schools must be accredited and offer continuous relevant hands-on, in-person experience. Since the money for the scholarships is raised by the San Diego Chapter, scholarships are only awarded to people who are connected to San Diego by school, work, or recent involvement in food or wine in the area. The scholarship money may be used for study within or outside of San Diego County.
Applications will be accepted until Monday, September 29, 2014. You will be notified if a follow-up interview is requested. Scholarship winners will be recognized at the Celebrity Chef Dinner on Thursday, November 20, 2014 in conjunction with the San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival. AIWF will remit funds to the schools in or about February 2015.
The scholarship award is not transferable without the written permission of the Scholarship Committee, and permission may be denied at the discretion of the Committee.
The scholarship funds will be sent directly to the school the successful applicant will be attending. All applicants are responsible for supplying their contact information at the time they submit the application, and again, after they start school, including addresses, home and cell phone numbers and email addresses.
Successful applicants are also required to supply the name, title, and mailing address of the person at the school to whom a check will be sent.
The San Diego Chapter expects feedback from scholarship winners about their achievements, experiences and future goals before graduation, and again, six months after the end of studies.
Please click here for the application, which must be completely filled out, along with the statement, resume, and letters of recommendation in order to be considered.
