Welcome to the Kansas City Chapter - begun in the fall of 1991, we are in our 20th year as an AIWF chapter; 30th year as a national organization. We would like you to be a member! Join us for informative and social food and wine events, as well as the rewards of bringing food taste stories to 4th graders and helping a culinary student each year.
NEWS: February, 2012: We are pleased to announce new AIWF-Kansas City board members, Linda Stutesman and Deanna Patton. Also, directors, Kathy Pelz, Jasper Mirabile, Jr. and Nancy Potter were re-elected to new terms. Rounding out the board are continuing terms of Tonya and Rhyne Gamble. Having more help on the board helps us deliver outstanding programs for members and guests, and continue our outreach efforts: Days of Taste® and a Tuition Award to Culinary Student. The board has re-elected Nancy as Chairman, and elected Linda as Treasurer and Deanna as Secretary, following Tonya Gamble who has served as both for the last year. Thank you to all! We look forward to hearing from members and prospective members with questions and suggestions to add to the positive AIWF-KC experience for all. Give us a call.
GIVING BACK: Would you like to volunteer your time or help with a donation for Days of Taste® - AIWF food education for 4th graders? Or give a donation to the tuition award program for JCCC Culinary Apprentice program? You can donate right here - any amount is hugely appreciated. Be sure to indicate "Kansas City Days of Taste®" or "Kansas City JCCC Culinary Tuition Award" in the Message box. If you have questions about these programs, or want to volunteer to help with them, contact us at npotter1@kc.rr.com or pelz4@aol.com.
The 2011 Days of Taste® program was very successful! Chefs, Farmers and Volunteers participated in bringing the program to 120 KC Kids! Thank You for making this 50% increase possible! Be sure and support our wonderful KC chefs and restaurants, and other food and wine businesses. Especially remember our Chapter Partner, Renee Kelly's. And Royal Liquors where we have an AIWF discount of 10% on non-sale items!
In 2011, we learned a lot about Greek and Spanish food, Cheese and Mushrooms, Mayan food, etc. We visited La Bodega, Wines by Jennifer, The Better Cheddar, Wakarusa Valley Farms, Esquina (Lawrence) and the wonderful Mexican/Mayan/Spanish cuisine restaurant "Latin Bistro and Culinary Center" in Gladstone. We had a surprise party at Chapter Partner, Renee Kelly's, for the retiring Sabals, charter members and hard workers for the chapter. We also had very successful Days of Taste benefits at The Capital Grille and at Le Creuset, and a DoT Thank You party at Starker's. And, finally, a wonderful holiday dinner at Pachamama's in Lawrence, KS.
For 2012, our Program Committee is exploring events at The Better Cheddar, Rm39, Vitacraft, PRP International, Summit & SW Blvd and other surprises - stay hungry and stay tuned. Let us hear from you - what would you like to taste and learn about? If you have ideas for events you would like to see on the calendar, please contact us! Better yet - help plan them!
