Welcome to the Kansas City Chapter!

September 19th - Save the date for DEAN & DELUCA.  Back by popular demand!  Josh Hodapp promises to out-do last year's event which was fabulous in itself!  How about cheeses, olive oils and vinegars?  Details coming soon...

We're also exploring events at Le Fou Frog, Grunauer, Latin Bistro & Culinary Center, and others - stay hungry and stay tuned.

Our July Capital Grille wine tasting event was terrific.  Thank you to The Capital Grille, Kyle Kincaid, J.D. and all staff for a wonderful time.  Also thank you to members Rhyne & Tonya for setting up this event.  We had a great turnout of members and guests and had a fun time mingling, drinking, eating and comparing.  The wine and food was outstanding!

Congrats to Renae Jennings, winner of our Gift Certificate at the Royal Liquors Summer Wine Tasting.  Thanks for stopping at our table Renae!

Days of TasteIf you are interested in helping with this worthwhile program to help 4th-graders understand the farm-to-table journey of their food, please do contact us!  To see more information click on tab for "Programs" - "Days of Taste" and pictures in our Photo Gallery.  Also, to see an article about the program - go to http://www.presentmagazine.com/ and search on "Days of Taste" or "AIWF".  We have 4 classrooms lined up and contacts have been made for 5 others.  We are looking for a sponsor - please contact us if you would like to help sponsor this program.  So much is gained for really a very small investment.  All participants benefit from this wonderful program.

Be sure and support our wonderful KC chefs and restaurants, including AIWF members Jasper's and Renee Kelly's.  And don't forget beverage outlets such as Royal Liquors where we have an AIWF discount!

Our Membership Appreciation Night at Jasper's was soooo goooood. Besides a full meal, Chefs J and J3 made Mozarella tableside, Chef Renee provided a delicious dessert, and Alan Hagedorn of Royal Liquors gave us great information about all the wines.  What a night!  Grazie Mille to all who made it special, including those you shared some 'homemade ingredients' recipes.

Winner of our annual scholarship award in 2009 is Greater Kansas City Chefs Association's Apprentice of the Year Sheena Maisch, apprentice at Mission Hills Country Club.  Congratulations Sheena!

If you have ideas for events you would like to see on the calendar, please contact us!  Better yet - help plan them!   We have had some great events at local establishments the last few months - Avenues Bistro, Jasper's, Dean & Deluca, Ambrosi Cutlery, Inland Sea, Mandarinism, Boulevard Brewery, Renee Kelly's, Better Cheddar, Em Chamas, and our cooking event with Karen Adler at Portfolio Kitchen and Home - all good chances to visit with many new and old AIWF-KC friends and enjoy some wonderful wine, food and beer!

The American Institute of Wine Food is a non-profit organization founded by Julia Child, Robert Mondavi, Richard Graff and others in 1981 to advance the understanding, appreciation and quality of what we eat and drink.

Please see the national organization's web page for more details on the AIWF's mission, national events, and links to our sister chapters.

Come see us again!
