A great start for 2010 was our Julia Child Boeuf Bourguignon Cooking Class and Dinner on February 18th. Our thanks to Karen Adler of Pigout Publications and Geri Higgins of Portfolio Kitchen-Home.
Our Holiday Wine Dinner at AVENUES BISTRO honored two of our co-founders, Julia Child & Robert Mondavi, with chicken and cab; and also included lamb smoked with vine clippings and barrel staves from our local urban winery, and a locally made honey mead as accompaniment to our dessert. The sold-out dinner also included members of Chaine des Rotisseurs and Avenues regulars. Check out the pics.
In November, we had a wonderful time with Jasper's cooking demonstration/tasting/signing from the new Jasper's Kitchen Cookbook. Everything was delicious and Jasper told us many family stories from the book.
Be sure and support our wonderful KC chefs and restaurants, including AIWF members Jasper's and Renee Kelly's. And don't forget beverage outlets such as Royal Liquors where we have an AIWF discount!
These folks would also appreciate our support: Support our local food pantries during these difficult times.
Winner of our annual scholarship award in 2009 is Greater Kansas City Chefs Association's Apprentice of the Year Sheena Maisch, apprentice at Mission Hills Country Club. Congratulations Sheena!
If you have ideas for events you would like to see on the calendar, please contact us! Better yet - help plan them! We have had some great events at local establishments the last few months - Avenues Bistro, Jasper's, Dean & Deluca, Ambrosi Cutlery, Inland Sea, Mandarinism, Boulevard Brewery, Renee Kelly's, Better Cheddar, Em Chamas - all good chances to visit with many new and old AIWF-KC friends and enjoy some wonderful wine, food and beer!
The American Institute of Wine Food is a non-profit organization founded by Julia Child, Robert Mondavi, Richard Graff and others in 1981 to advance the understanding, appreciation and quality of what we eat and drink.
Please see the national organization's web page for more details on the AIWF's mission, national events, and links to our sister chapters.
Come see us again!
