Welcome to the Kansas City Chapter!
A great start for 2010 will be our Julia Child Boeuf Bourguignon Cooking Class and Dinner on February 18th. Join our email list to receive the latest details and reservations information. Or check our event calendar for updates. This will be a heart-y February evening. :)
Also - save the date for our BETTER CHEDDAR event - April 13th.
Our Holiday Wine Dinner at AVENUES BISTRO was a tasty event. The dinner honored two of our co-founders, Julia Child & Robert Mondavi, with chicken and cab; and included lamb smoked with vine clippings and barrel staves from our local urban winery, and a locally made honey mead as accompaniment to our dessert. The sangria starter and the champagne ginger soup were creative additions too. Besides AIWF members and guests, the sold-out dinner included members of Chaine des Rotisseurs and Avenues regulars. Check out the pics in the Photo Gallery.
In November, we had a wonderful time with Jasper's cooking demonstration/tasting/signing from the new Jasper's Kitchen Cookbook. Everything was delicious and Jasper told us many family stories from the book.
Be sure and support our wonderful KC chefs and restaurants, including AIWF members Jasper's and Renee Kelly's. And don't forget beverage outlets such as Royal Liquors where we have an AIWF discount!
The winner and recipent of our chapter's annual scholarship award is ..... Sheena Maisch - the Greater Kansas City Chefs Association "2009 Apprentice of the Year". Congratulations Sheena! Sheena apprentices at the Mission Hills Country Club.
These folks would also appreciate our support: Support our local food pantries during these difficult times. Also, organizations collecting toys, warm coats, etc.
Days of Taste - We have started a committee to plan our next DAYS of TASTE event. If you are interested in helping with this worthwhile program to help 4th-graders understand the farm-to-table journey of their food, please do contact us! To see information from our previous event (in 2006), check out our restaurants and sponsor under "Programs" - "Days of Taste" and pictures in our Photo Gallery. Also, to see an article about the program - go to http://www.presentmagazine.com/ and search on "Days of Taste" or "AIWF".
If you have ideas for events you would like to see on the calendar, please contact us! Better yet - help plan them! We have had some great events at local establishments the last few months - Avenues Bistro, Jasper's, Dean & Deluca, Ambrosi Cutlery, Inland Sea, Mandarinism, Boulevard Brewery, Renee Kelly's, Better Cheddar, Em Chamas - all good chances to visit with many new and old AIWF-KC friends and enjoy some wonderful wine, food and beer!
