Welcome to The AIWF Washington DC Chapter!

The American Institute of Wine Food is a non-profit organization founded by Julia Child, Robert Mondavi, Richard Graff and others in 1981 to advance the understanding, appreciation and quality of what we eat and drink.

The Washington DC Chapter is one of many across the United States. Along with our sister chapters and the national organization, we promote an exchange of ideas that benefit both professionals and dedicated enthusiasts through publications and programs.

Membership is open to all. It is a wonderful way to meet knowledgeable people in the industry and simply a great way to meet others with common interests. We encourage you to attend one or two of our events as a guest.

News:

The American Institute of Wine & Food’s 9th Annual Crab Cake Competition, honoring Karen Cathey was held on Sunday, June 15 at The Source by Wolfgang Puck.

Congratulations  to the Winners --- Chef Haidar Karoum of Doi Moi who won the coveted "Best Crab Cake" award from the Judges.

For the "Peoples Choice" Award we have a tie, for the first time in 9 years. Congratulations  to two great chefs --- Chef Sarah Biglan of Ris and Chef Andrew Markert of Beuchert's Saloon

The Life of Carolyn Jane Margolis

Our dear friend Carolyn, whom we lost unexpectedly on August 15, played a significant role in the food world of Washington DC. She was instrumental in the development of our local AIWF chapter and a member of the AIWF’s National Board, where she was an active voice for the celebration of food and wine, dating from the days of the Julia Child and Robert Mondavi leadership. She capped her many years of contribution, serving proudly as the National Capital Area Chapter Chair since 2008. We  honored her contributions to AIWF and her joie de vivre at RIS on October 19th.

.

Read about Andrew Evans, one of our favorite chefs (and past winner of the "I Love Crab Cakes" competition), on the Washington Post.

Check out recipes from Chef Matt Finareli for his Fenneled Fingerling Potatoes, Laurie Bell for her Luscious Crabcakes and Presto Pesto.
