Hot Food & Cool Wine is Back! August... by Laura Singer on 2010-07-19

Hot Food Cool Wine on August 22nd – Santa Maria style BBQ and California wines on the Connecticut shore! We’re featuring Santa Maria style barbecue, a unique way of wood-grilling spice-rubbed steak. Our chef will prepare the main course along with its traditional accompaniment, pinquito beans, salad, salsa and other sides. Fish will be available for non-meat eaters on request when you register for the event. Bring a bottle of wine to enjoy and share! We’ll be dining at the Southport home of Stu and Harriet Baldwin. Weather-permitting, you’ll be able to enjoy the lovely beach. Low tide is around 5 pm, so you may want to dress for wading out into the Sound. Bring a bottle of something that can stand up to good beef. Wine Enthusiast magazine, which published an article on Santa Maria barbecue in its June 28th issue, recommends steakhouse reds such as the Cabernet Sauvignons and Syrahs of Santa Barbara – but feel free to wander out of California. The Wine Enthusiast article at http://www.winemag.com/Wine-Enthusiast-Magazine/June-2010/Santa-Maria-Style-Barbecue/ is guaranteed to whet your appetite. Additional event and reservation details are below. We hope to see you on 22nd! Date - Sunday, August 22, 2010 Time – 4:00-7:00 pm Place - 1338 Pequot Avenue, Southport CT 06890 Food - Santa Maria-style BBQ (wood-grilled, spice-rubbed beef) with sides of pinquito beans and vegetables. New Chair for AIWF-CT Chapter by Laura (posted by Harriet on 2010-05-03

Stuart Baldwin is the new Chair of the CT Chapter of AIWF. “It’s only fitting that I should offer service to AIWF,” Baldwin says, “because the wines of the late AIWF co-founders Robert Mondavi and Dick Graff were part of my introduction to great American wine. In learning to appreciate fine wine and food, I have repeatedly benefited from the spirit of generosity so prevalent in those worlds,” he says. read more...
