Welcome to the Connecticut Chapter!
The AIWF-CT Chapter hosts a number of wine and food events throughout the year, including winemaker dinners, art and wine receptions and BYOB events. Inspired by local legends including Jacques Pepin, we aim to share the joys and comaraderie of food and wine with long-time friends and new acquaintances, often with an educational component. Watch our "news" and "calendar" tabs for upcoming events! We hope to see you at one soon.
Our Chapter Board Chair is Stuart Baldwin. A resident of Fairfield County and the Finger Lakes wine region of upstate NY, Baldwin is a real estate developer, accomplished cook and long-time member of AIWF. He serves on the National Executive Committee of AIWF. He is active in a number of other major wine and food organizations, including the New York Commanderie de Bordeaux and the James Beard Foundation. Closer to home, he is a Member of Les Amis De La Table from New Haven and the Near and Far Aid Association Wine Donor’s Group from Fairfield/Westport. He also serves as Board President of the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation from Greenwich, which promotes international cultural exchange.
“It’s only fitting that I should offer service to AIWF,” Baldwin says, “because the wines of the late AIWF co-founders Robert Mondavi and Dick Graff were part of my introduction to great American wine. In learning to appreciate fine wine and food, I have repeatedly benefited from the spirit of generosity so prevalent in those worlds,” he says. “It’s my hope to make AIWF-CT both a help to others on similar journeys and a place where aficionados can meet and encourage other enthusiasts while sharing unique experiences.”
Additional CT Chapter board members include Harriet Baldwin, Melanie Bennett, Linda Bruno, Pat Powers and Chuck Schoendorf, a past Chair.
Based in California, AIWF was co-founded by Julia Child, Robert Mondavi and Richard Graff and has chapters across the United States. Long before the era of celebrity chefs and the Food Network, AIWF played a seminal role in educating Americans about the culinary arts and sparking interest in food and wine. Today, in addition to hosting conferences and events across the country, it encourages a new generation of schoolchildren to appreciate the joys of cooking and real fresh food through its Days of Taste and culinary scholarship programs. Please see the national organization's web page for more details on the AIWF's mission, national events, and links to our sister chapters.
